Sri Lanka leader of Opposition and the leader of the United National Party (UNP) Ranil Wickremasinghe says that the UNP showed its ability to represent Muslims by giving the candidature of Colombo Mayor post to a Muslim.
Addressing a meeting held in Kalmunai, Wickremasinghe said that Sri Lanka Muslim Congress had failed to represent the Sri Lankan Muslims at a substantial level.
He said the Muslim Congress had betrayed the Muslims and asked the people to rally round the UNP since it was the only party that could represent all parties.
He further said that although the Muslim Congress had joined the ruling coalition, it lacked recognition and respect.
The Opposition Leader said the UNP was not a party that goes after privileges.
