Sri Lanka's main opposition United National Party (UNP) says the party is aiming at gaining control of the Colombo Municipal Council (CMC) at the forthcoming local government elections. UNP
General Secretary Tissa Attanayake told a press conference that the party would compile its nominations lists for the remaining local government bodies on Wednesday (10). The UNP is planning to hand in its nominations lists around the 24th of August. Meanwhile, Attanayake also pointed out that recent incidents of importing substandard petrol and cement indicated the level of corruption in the government.
