The Sri Lankan government has decided to amend the irrigation ordinance as soon as possible to enhance the productivity of the country's irrigation system, Ministry of Irrigation and Water Management says.
The irrigation ordinance, sans a few occasions, remained almost unchanged since its inception in 1946, said a spokesman of the Ministry of Irrigation and Water Management.
Minister of Irrigation and Water Management Nimal Siripala de Silva has appointed a committee of officials to make recommendations to amend the ordinance in an effective manner.
The committee comprises officials from the Water Supply and Drainage Board, the Land Reclamation Department and the Attorney General's Department.
