Sri Lanka reintegrates another 106 ex-Tamil Tiger cadres

Sri Lanka Commissioner General of Rehabilitation Brigadier Sudantha Ranasinghe said that 106 rehabilitated former Tamil Tiger cadres were released today.

The rehabilitated rebels were handed over to their families today in Vavuniya to mark the Maha Siva Rathri festival.

The released group included 104 men and two women, said the Rehabilitation Commissioner General.

He further stated that 4,500 similar ex-rebels are undergoing rehabilitation in Sri Lanka. Most of them are the rebel cadres that surrendered to the Army following the military annihilation of the Liberation Tigers of Tamil Eelam.

During the last stages of the war with the LTTE rebels, the security forces detained 11,696 ex-combatants including 594 child soldiers. The government has so far reintegrated 5,764 ex-cadres who underwent an extensive rehabilitation program into the society.
