Sri Lanka's Marxist party, Janatha Vimukthi Peramuna (JVP) today called on the Sports Minister and the government seniors to apologize to the Sri Lankan cricketers.
JVP Propaganda Secretary and parliamentarian Vijitha Herath told a press conference that the government should apologize to the Sri Lankan cricket team's vice captain Mahela Jayawardena and cricketer Thilan Samaraweera.
Herath's comments comes after reports that Jayawardena was considering legal action against state-owned Independent Television Network (ITN) for saying that he and team mate Samaraweera had sold the game.
Herath asked as to what proof the state media had to prove such an incident had taken place.
The scriptwriter Mahinda Abeysundara, is also the editor of the state-run Sinhala newspaper Dinamina.
He said that the scriptwriter for the respective programme on state television was a Presidential advisor and therefore, the comments could not be taken lightly.
According to Herath, while the government accused players when the game was lost, the same people would have praised the cricketers by gifting them satakayas had the match been won.
