Sri Lanka President declares open a Buddhist art gallery in Colombo

Sri Lanka President Mahinda Rajapaksa declared open a Buddhist art gallery today at Hunupitiya Gangarama Temple, located by the side of the picturesque Beira Lake in Colombo city.


Sri Lanka's Opposition leader Ranil Wickremasinghe also participated in the occasion with the President.
The gallery, established under a concept of Chief incumbent of the Gangarama Temple Ven. Galabada Gnanissara Thero, displays many replicas of murals and frescoes from located in number of historical Buddhist temples and archeological sites around the country.
The President addressing the gathering said that the government would provide all necessary facilities to conserve the archeological heritage of Sri Lanka.
The President appreciated the Buddhist temples that help the government to safeguard the Buddhist heritage for the benefit of future generation.
Secretary to the President Lalith Weeratunga, Maha Sangha distinguished guests and Sunday school children were also present at the occasion.
