Sri Lanka Minister of Education Bandula Gunawardena says that he will initiate legal action against a private media company on defamation charges.
He said that he would seek Rs. 100 million damages for insulting him publicly through a story aired by a TV channel regarding a personal affair.
The Minister said that he held an alms giving at Homagama Mahinda Rajapaksa Central College in respect of his mother and he had rights to hold the ceremony at his own expense.
He said that the relevant media company published a defamatory comment after a news bulletin regarding this alms giving to Buddhist monks was issued.
He however, did not name the media company.
