Karnataka high court gives 25 days time to Jayalalithaa in assets case

The Karnataka high court on Friday granted 25 days time to furnish the correct translation of the statements of all the witnesses in the disproportionate assets case filed against former Tamil Nadu chief minister and AIADMK general secretary J Jayalalithaa.

Justice KN Keshavanaraya, on Friday while pronouncing the orders in interlocutory application (IA) filed by Jayalalithaa questioning the loopholes in the translation regarding the transfer of the disproportionate assets case, has directed the accused to point out the mistakes in 15 days time to the court. Thereafter, the special court should refer the same to the interpreter and seek report from him within 10 days, he said.

Jayalalithaa’s counsel and other accused filed the IA contending that there are loopholes in the translation. So, before recording the statements of the accused by the special court in this case, they need to be corrected, the petitioner’s counsel said.

Justice Keshavanaraya further directed the accused to produce the suggested version within 15 days and upon its production the special court should refer the same to the interpreter and seek a report from him within 10 days from the date of such reference.

Later, the interpreter’s versions will be considered by the special judge while formulating the questions for Section 313 and for judgment.
