Sri Lanka's IDPs in camps affected by floods

Sri Lankan authorities say people internally displaced by the war who are still remaining in the welfare camps in the Wanni now have been displaced by floods.

Vavuniya District Secretary Mrs. P.S.M. Charles has told the media that the Internally Displaced Persons in Vavuniya welfare camps have been affected by the floods and they have been relocated as a result.

Mrs. Charles has said that nearly 1,000 of the displaced persons have been relocated to a nearby higher land.

There are 17,000 IDPs remaining in the Menik Farm welfare camps in Vavuniya and they are to be relocated to higher lands.

Meanwhile, a large number of resettled families are once again displaced due to the floods in the Vavuniya District.
