A Sri Lankan government minister has said that the Tamil community was ready to accept former LTTE International Wing Leader Kumaran Pathmanathan alias KP if he entered politics.
EPDP Leader and Traditional Industries and Small Enterprise Development Minister Douglas Devananda in an interview with a private electronic media has said that the people were ready to accept KP if he wanted to enter politics.
Devananda has told Ada Derana that it was a positive sign to have someone who was involved in terrorism at one point to enter democratic politics.
Citing an example, the Minister has said that a former LTTE leader, Vinayagamoorthy Muralitharan alias Karuna Amman had also entered politics after giving up arms.
Speculations are ripe that the former arms procurer for the LTTE terrorist group, who was in custody since his arrest in August 2009, is seeking to form his own political party.
Sri Lanka's main opposition United National Party has said that the party has no problem with KP joining politics through a democratic process.
