Sri Lanka extends deadline for postal votes application

Sri Lanka Election Secretariat announced that the time allocated for public servants to apply for postal votes was extended until January 31.

The reason cited for the extension is to guarantee an opportunity for the public employees who were affected by bad weather to cast postal votes.

However, applications for the postal votes were comparably very low at the local government polls, Election Secretariat sources said.

The application for the postal votes from the public employees was to close yesterday.
