CM releases book on cases dealt with by CB-CID

A book on various cases dealt with by CB-CID wing of Tamil Nadu Police, including the 1998 Coimbatore bomb blasts case and the ''Auto'' Shankar serial murder case of 1987, was released by Tamil Nadu Chief Minister M Karunanidhi here today.

The book titled ''CBCID - A Retrospect'' gives details of the murders and frauds in Tamil Nadu since the inception of CB-CID in 1911, an official press release said.
Starting with details of the Maniyachi murder case of 1911, it has collections of 38 murder cases in 1972, the Sansi gang dacoities and murders of 1983, Auto Shankar serial murder case in 1987 and the Premananda murder case.
Among frauds, those that find mention are the famous Gold Quest fraud, bogus priest Anandaraj and notorious cheat Maya Venkatesan.
Other noted cases covered are Meenambakkam Airport blast case, the Ritamary and Irula rape cases, details of missing Jeeyar of Srirangam Temple, former Chief Minister late M G Ramachandran being shot at by a fellow actor and illegal mining in Nilgiris district.
The book also gives details of the laurels received by the Tamil Nadu Police in All India Police Duty Meets since 1953, the release said.
Tamil Nadu DGP Letika Saran received the first copy of the book from M Karunanidhi at a function at the Secretariat.
