Sri Lanka's main opposition United National Party (UNP) today said that there was no split in the party despite press conferences held by two factions in the party.
The UNP Leader Ranil Wickremasinghe and UNP Hambantota District MP Sajith Premadasa held separate press conferences on Saturday (11) and yesterday (13).
UNP Spokesperson, parliamentarian Gayantha Karunatileka told a press conference that although there were differences in opinion, it was in no way a split in the party.
Karunatileka said that the UNP managed to gain political power in 1975 after holding a similar convention.
He also noted that elections for key positions in the party will be held within the next 120 days.
