Sri Lanka Central Bank issues multi-colour 5000 rupee coin to mark 60th anniversary

The Central Bank of Sri Lanka (CBSL) is to issue first multi-colour coin today to mark its 60th anniversary.


The Governor of CBSL, Ajith Nivard Cabraal will ceremonially issue the first Frosted Proof crown size multi-colour silver commemorative coin in the denomination of Rupees 5,000 to President Mahinda Rajapaksa today.  The Central Bank commenced operations in 1950 and completed 60 years on August 28, 2010.
The obverse of the coin depicts the crest of the CBSL in colour in the middle and the year 1950 and 2010 appear below the crest. The words "Central Bank of Sri Lanka" in Sinhala, Tamil, and English appear on the periphery of the coin.
Reverse image of the coin illustrates a tree, which symbolizes the growth and stability of the economy of Sri Lanka.
The coin which weighs 28.28 grams and 38.61 mm in diameter is the 50th commemorative coin to be issued.
