Over 40 university students from Sri Lanka's Sri Jayewardenepura University have been suspended with immediate effect for participating in a protest last week.
University sources said that 12 of the 44 students suspended were student monks.
The Vice Chancellor of the University, Dr. N. L. A. Karunaratne has said the students' suspended sentence is effective from December 1.
Meanwhile, it has been reported that a total of 103 students from the Sri Jayewardenepura University have been suspended for various reasons.
Student unrest in Sri Lankan universities is attributed to the politics of the Marxist People's Liberation Front (JVP) led Inter University Students Federation (IUSF).
