Opposition party says it is ready to face any challenge posed by the Sri Lankan government

Sri Lanka's main opposition United National Party (UNP) today said the party was ready to face any challenge posed by the government.

UNP General Secretary Tissa Attanayake made this comment over the government's statement that a no confidence motion will be presented against UNP Deputy Leader Karu Jayasuriya.

The government yesterday said that a no confidence motion will be presented against Jayasuriya for allegedly stating to a newspaper that a war crimes probe had to be conducted on Sri Lanka.

The MP denies making any statement about war crimes in his statement to the weekend newspaper.

Attanayake has told the media that the newspaper had twisted the statement and legal action will be taken against the paper.
