A lawyer from Musali in the Mannar district is to fill the seat left behind by the sudden death of Sri Lanka Muslim Congress parliamentarian Noordeen Mashoor.
The government announced today that attorney-at-law U.L. Muthaliph Farook who was next in line of the list of preferential votes in the electoral list of Wanni will be appointed as an MP for Wanni district.
The Commissioner of Elections will gazette the name of Farook soon to fill the vacancy.
Mashoor represented the Vanni electoral district in the Sri Lankan Parliament between October 2000 and April 2004 and returned to parliament from April 2010 elections under the United National Front.
Sri Lanka Muslim Congress, a constituent party of the United National Front recently joined the government.
