A beleaguered chief minister BS Yeddyurappa, who is facing a series of land scam allegations, on Tuesday sought to showcase his other face before BJP national president Nitin Gadkari, by taking him on a tour of various development projects undertaken by him in Bangalore city.
Shielding his boss from any queries by mediapersons, Yeddyurappa took Gadkari on a planned tour of a few projects along select roads.
The chief minister, accompanied by his son and MP, BY Raghavendra, higher education minister VS Acharya, energy minister Shobha Karandlaje and urban development, law and parliamentary affairs minister S Suresh Kumar, took Gadkari to the yet-to-be inaugurated Nayandahalli rail underbridge along the Outer Ring Road and a park created on the underpass, constructed by the Bangalore Development Authority.
They also visited the 60mld tertiary treatment plant of the Bangalore Water Supply and Sewerage Board, which is at present treating 15mld of water and being sold to industries and construction units. They also visited the Kommaghatta Lake, while on a visit to Kengeri flyover and Mysore Road.
The visit turned out to be fruitful for Yeddyurappa as Gadkari showered praises on the state government and its developmental works. However, Gadkari ignored the pathetic road conditions of Mysore Road and the stench emanating from the Vrushabhavathi Valley.
The visit of the VIPs, however, put commuters into a lot of inconvenience as peak hour traffic movement suffered on Tuesday evening. Police officials were seen managing traffic on one side, giving way to the convoy.
Speaking to the media, after visiting the treatment plant, Gadkari expressed happiness at the e-governance work that being carried out in the state. “The Metro work is a very challenging project, and I am very satisfied with the developmental works in Karnataka. I am impressed by the work undertaken by the government and I expect the good work to continue,” he said.
When asked on the opposition accusations, Gadkari said, “I feel that politics of the 21st century is very good. I am least bothered about what the opposition says.”
