Sri Lanka's prison officials have said that former Army Commander and Democratic National Alliance leader Sarath Fonseka has been admitted to the prison hospital due to a sudden illness.
Prisons Commissioner General, Major General V.R. De Silva told the media that Fonseka was admitted to the prison hospital last night following a sudden illness.
Fonseka has reportedly fallen ill after returning to the prison from attending the two cases against him in courts yesterday.
Meanwhile, Fonseka's wife Anoma Fonseka has been quoted in the local media saying that Fonseka was transferred to the prisons hospital because his prison cell was leaking the previous night due to heavy rains.
Anoma has said the prison officials had given him six buckets to place under the leaks on the roof, but had later moved him to the prison hospital when the rains became heavy.
