President Rajapaksa made these remarks today in a ceremony held at the Presidential Secretariat to distribute new rescue vehicles to the emergency services.
The President emphasized that the Local Government bodies should identify the needs of the people and take necessary measures to fulfill them while enabling the villages with the benefits of government's development projects.

Royal Netherland government funded the project at a cost of 95 million rupees.
Fifty spray machines to be used for Dengue eradication were also distributed to 50 institutes at a cost of 12.5 million rupees. The World Health Organization has funded the cost of the machines.
Minister of Disaster Management A.H.M. Fowzie, Minister of Local Government and Provincial Councils A.L.M Athaulla, parliamentarians W.B Ekanayaka and Indika Bandaranayake, Royal Netherlands Ambassador Leoni Cuelenaere, WHO Representative Dr. F.R. Mehetha and other Local Government representatives were present at the occasion.
