Sri Lanka is gearing up to hold the much anticipated inaugural ceremony of President Mahinda Rajapaksa's second term in office this Friday, November 19.
Coinciding with the inaugural ceremony President Rajapaksa will also celebrate his 65th birthday on Thursday.
Addressing media today Sri Lanka Prime Minister Rathnasiri Wickramanayaka said a simple, yet gallant ceremony is in the planning to mark the second inauguration ceremony with the participation of several heads of state and other dignitaries.
Among the foreign dignitaries to attend the inauguration are the President of the Maldives and Prime Minister of Bhutan. Chinese Presidential Envoy Sang Guowei, vice chairman of the National People's Congress Standing Committee is scheduled to arrive tomorrow to participate in the ceremony.
The government has also declared a special commemorative week in connection with the second term swearing-in ceremony. Several programs are planned for the celebration week.
The government launched the commemorative week yesterday with the 'Deyata Sevana' tree-planting campaign to plant 1.1 million trees island wide in 11 minutes.
A unique exhibition, under the tile "Nidahasa-Suba Sanskruthiyaka Pera Dekama" showcasing the patriotism and modern technology will open tomorrow at the Independence Square in Colombo. The exhibition will run until Saturday, the 20th.
The first ship will ceremonially berth in the new Magampura Harbour in Hambanthota district of Sri Lanka's Southern Province on November 19th under President's patronage.
The Premier told the media that the President will outline the forward march of the country to the public at the inauguration ceremony.
The government has declared November 19 a holiday for the public offices in certain areas of Colombo while some schools have also been given holidays and end of the year term tests have been postponed in preparation for the big event.
