Prosecutors are seeking a six-year prison sentence for Selladurai.
The Sri Lankan man pleaded guilty last month to three counts of aggravated assault, in connection with a June 2007 incident where he used his mini-van to attempt to drive over his daughter, her boyfriend and son-in-law.
The crown says the 46-year-old Scarborough man disapproved of his daughter’s boyfriend, because he came from a lower caste in their native Sri Lanka.
Selladurai maintains his disapproval was because he thought the boyfriend was a gang leader.
His daughter, Anitha Selvanayagam, 16, had left home for three days after a fight about her boyfriend.
Her older sister Jenitha had arranged a meeting that included her boyfriend Prashanna “Pram” Anadarajah, 18, and brother-in-law Lenin Sandrasingam, 21, in the Birchmount Rd. and Sheppard Ave. area.
Instead of a reconciliation, Selladurai headed straight for the trio with his van.
Anitha was dragged 5m and suffered a head injury. Anadarajah injured his ankle and the son-in-law suffered a broken pelvis.
Selladurai was originally charged with attempted murder. The case will resume Nov. 23.
