Normal life hit for second day in Tamil Nadu

Normal life was affected for the second day in Tamil Nadu and neighbouring Puducherry due to heavy rains, even as the weather office predicted more downpour for the next two days.
"Even though the well-marked low pressure over Bay of Bengal moved towards a westerly direction, isolated heavy to very heavy rain would occur over Tamil Nadu and Puducherry during the next 48 hour starting from 8.30am today", a weather official said.

Kolachal (Kanyakumari district) in Tamil Nadu recorded the highest rainfall of 19cm in 24 hours ending 8.30am today.
Roads were submerged in some parts of the state.
A Salem report said outflow from the Mettur Reservoir was reduced to 3000 cusecs from 6000 cusecs following heavy rain in delta areas.
The water level stood at 107.18 feet against the dam's full level of 120 feet, PWD sources said
Tiruchirapalli, Thanjavur, Nagapattinam and Cuddalore districts reported heavy rains.
Several roads and subways were inundated and traffic was also affected in many places in Chennai.
Puducherry recorded around 3.5cm rain in 24 hours ending at 8.30am today.
There has been a perceptible rise in subsoil water table, official sources said.
