Medical Officers' Association calls on Sri Lankan government to increase doctors' salaries

Sri Lanka's Government Medical Officers' Association (GMOA) has called on the government to increase the salaries of doctors in the 2011 budget.

The GMOA has made representations to several ministers and the Treasury Secretary to work on increasing the salaries of doctors.
Committee member of the GMOA, Dr. Chandika Epitakaduwa has been quoted in the local media saying the current salaries of the doctors were insufficient.

The GMOA has requested the government to bring the current ratio between the minimum and maximum wage to 1:12.

The Association has said that such a step would help keep the medical degree holders and other professionals in Sri Lanka without forcing them to migrate looking for better offers.
