Three hundred Sri Lankan youth are leaving for Israel for jobs

Three hundred Sri Lankan youth are leaving the country for Israel for foreign employment.

The first batch of 100 who left the island yesterday is expected to arrive at the Ben-Gurion Airport in Israel today.
They will be employed to assist Israeli farmers for six months, during the seasonal peak.
Israel Interior Ministry said the Sri Lankans have been given temporary employment in the agriculture sector under a project launched by the Population, Immigration, and Borders Authority (PIBA).

The project is being coordinated between the government of Israel, the government of Sri Lanka and the Geneva-based International Organization for Migration.

Sri Lanka Foreign Employment Bureau said the youth will be employed in various factories in Israel. Their initial contract is for six months with possible extension depending on the performances.

The youth were given training by the Sri Lanka Foreign Employment Bureau. The salary paid for these youths by Israel is around Rs. 110,000, sources said.
