Sri Lanka's National career Sri Lankan Airlines is in the process of acquiring two Twin Otter aircrafts to start an air taxi service, aviation sources reported.
The air taxi service is to start in January targeting the winter tourists.
Twin Otter is a twin-engine aircraft that is capable of carrying 15 passengers at a time. It can land on sea, river, or lake surfaces.
Head of Worldwide Sales of Sri Lankan Mohamed Fazeel told media that the new service will enable travelers to reach any part of the island within 40 minutes.
Earlier the national carrier SriLankan Airlines operated an air taxi service to several domestic destinations but suspended in 2007 due to deteriorating security and a drop in foreign visitors during the war.
