SriLankan Airlines USA & Canada gave away awards for their Agents at a ceremony held recently in Sri Lanka at the Galadari Hotel, Colombo. The staff of SriLankan Airlines USA and Canada were present at this event which was well attended by most of their Agents based in different parts of the US and Canada
Defense Secretary of Sri Lanka, Mr. Gotabaya Rajapaksa, Secretary to the President, Mr. Lalith Weeratunga, were the Guests of Honor. Chairman SriLankan Airlines, Mr. Nishantha Wickramasinghe, CEO SriLankan Airlines, Mr. Manoj Gunawardena, Chairman Sri Lanka Tourism, Dr. Nalaka Godahewa and the Sri Lanka Ambassador to the United States, H.E. Mr. Jaliya Wickramasuriya were present at the event.
The Awards were based on performance of the Agents over financial year 2009/2010. For USA the Gold Award was won by "Upul's Travel Service" and the Silver Award went to "Expedia" while the Bronze Award was received by "Adore Travel". For Canada the Gold Award was won by "Airlink Travel" and the Silver Award went to "Jetspeed Travel" while the Bronze Award was received by "AJB Travel".
Appreciation Awards were given for Orbitz, Eastquest, Avia Travel and Concord Travel in the USA and Serendib Travel1, Skylawn Travel Ltd, Goway Travel Ltd, Jet Travels and Voyages Professionals in Canada.
A speech was delivered by Mr. Lalith Weeratunga, Mr. Nishantha Wickramasinghe, Mr. Manoj Gunawardena and the PATA Chairman Mr. Hiran Cooray. The Vote of Thanks was delivered by Mr. Lalith Wickramasinghe, Manager Canada.
The Chairman and Management of SriLankan Airlines presented a special Award to Sri Lankan Travel, Inc. "In appreciation for a Decade of Loyal Partnership" which was received by Mr. Dillan Ariyawansa, Chairman & Chief Executive Officer of Sri Lankan Travel, Inc. Mr. Ariyawansa and his team were also thanked for the wonderful event put together.
The event was compered by Mr. Kumar De Silva in English and Sinhalese while Ms. Jananey Jayaratnarajah compered in Tamil. The Awards Night featured performances by the Sri Lankan Violinist Ruwan Weerasekera and several beautiful Sri Lankan Dances by the Channa-Upuli Dance Troupe.
