Sri Lanka's Minister says Chinese construction company to pay for Norochcholai damages

Sri Lanka's Power and Energy Ministry today said the government would not bare the costs for the damages caused by the accidental fire at the Norochcholai coal power plant.

Power and Energy Minister Champika Ranawaka told a press conference that the Chinese construction company will pay for the damages caused due to the accidental fire.
He said the cost of the damages is yet to be evaluated and a full investigation into the fire is currently underway.

According to Ranawaka, electricity from the Norochcholai power plant will be added to the national grid in January 2011.

The first ship transporting coal for the power plant is scheduled to reach Sri Lanka on November 23.
