Sri Lankan delegation in Malaysia to promote tourism

A high level delegation from Sri Lanka Tourism led by the Deputy Minister of Economic Development Lakshman Yapa Abeywardena is currently attending the World Tourism Conference in Kota Kinabalu, Sabah, Malaysia from 4 to 6 October 2010.


Minister Abeywardena met the United Nations World Tourism Organisation (UNWTO) Secretary General, Dr. Taleb Rifai during the conference and discussed avenues to develop Sri Lanka Tourism and to find possibilities of obtaining UNWTO assistance for Sri Lanka tourism development.
Sri Lanka will host the 23rd UNWTO Commission for Asia meetings next year. This will be attended by the UNWTO Secretary General, heads of national tourism organizations and international media.
Minister Abeywardena is seen here presenting a Sri Lankan souvenir to the Chief Minister Right Honourable Datuk Seri Panglima Musa Aman at the conference following the discussion on enhancing tourism between the two countries.
The Sri Lankan delegation pictured here with the UNWTO Secretary General, Dr. Taleb Rifai included Acting Managing Director, Sri Lanka Tourism Promotion Bureau Malraj Kiriella, Deputy Minister of Economic Development Lakshman Yapa Abeywardena, and Chairman, Sri Lanka Tourism Dr. Nalaka Godahewa.
