Sri Lanka President directs officials to start two new schools in Matara

Sri Lanka President Mahinda Rajapaksa has directed the education authorities to open two new schools in Matara in the Southern Province, Provincial Council sources say.

The two schools were built to relocate the St. Servatius' College and Mahamaya Girls' College that were devastated in the 2004 December 26 tsunami.
However, the parents of the children of these schools did not wish the schools be shifted to the new locations that are far away from the present location.

Therefore, the President has directed the education officials to start these two new schools as separate entities from January next year while St. Servatius' College and Mahamaya Girls' College will operate from the old premises.
