Sri Lanka military to remove roadblocks and checkpoints in the capital

Sri Lanka's military said that road blocks and checkpoints between Wellawatte and Bambalapitiya areas of capital Colombo will be removed today.

Military Spokesperson Major General Ubhaya Medawela told the local media that the removal of road blocks is due to the improved security situation in the country following the end of the war and that it would enable the public to move freely within the city.
He has said the military was planning to remove other roadblocks as well.
However, Medawela has added that an advanced surveillance system will be put in place to ensure security in the city.
