Sri Lanka Election Commissioner's Department to interview political parties seeking registration

Sri Lanka Election Commissioner's Department has said it is to commence interviews for political parties that have applied to be registered.

The Department has said that all political parties that have handed in applications for registration would first face a series of interviews.
The local media quoted the Elections Commissioner's office saying that 82 political parties have applied to be registered.
Currently there are 66 approved political parties in Sri Lanka.
Parties that have fulfilled the required qualifications to be registered have reportedly been called for interviews.
The registration of all new political parties is to be completed before the local government elections next year.
