Sri Lanka discusses revision of non-conventional renewable energy based electricity purchase tariffs

Sri Lanka Public Utility Commission held a public hearing on revision of non-conventional renewable energy based electricity purchase tariffs.

The public hearing was held in Sri Lanka Foundation Institute from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. today.
This public consultation was related to the generation plants having capacities less than 10 MW.
Meanwhile, the Power and Energy Minister, Patali Champika Ranawaka said the losses to be incurred by the Ceylon Electricity Board will be less than what is expected for this year as the good rainfall received in the catchment areas saves the expenditure on thermal sources.

The CEB has expected a loss of 40 billion rupees for 2010 but the Minister expects the loss to be half of that amount.

The Minister hopes to eliminate the losses incur by the CEB by next year when the 300 MW Norochcholai coal power plant kicks in production this November.
