Sri Lanka's main opposition not to discuss voting rights for PC members when electing party leader

Sri Lanka's main opposition United National Party (UNP) says it would not discuss the issue of granting voting rights to provincial councilors when electing senior leaders to the party
.A group of UNP Central Provincial Councilors who have requested for a meeting with UNP Leader Ranil Wickremasinghe and party secretary Tissa Attanayake have organized the meeting for Saturday (25).
However, UNP General Secretary Tissa Attanayake told the local media that the issue of granting voting rights to the provincial councils to elect the leader would not be on the agenda at the meeting between Wickremasinghe and the UNP Central Provincial Councilors.
According to Attanayake, the UNP Working Committee has already approved the reforms presented by the committee headed by Joseph Michael Perera and that a new party constitution in line with it is being drafted.
Meanwhile, UNP Central Provincial Councilor Sanjeewa Kaviratne has reportedly said Councilors would take up the issue of voting rights at Saturday's meeting with the party leader.
