Marxist party affiliated trade union of Sri Lanka to meet on the 30th for salary demands

Sri Lanka's Marxist Janatha Vimukthi Peramuna (JVP) affiliated National Trade Union Center (NTUC) has organized a meeting with many trade unions on Thursday (30) to decide on the actions to be taken to urge the government for a Rs. 8,000 salary increment.

The NTUC is currently holding discussions with other trade unions. According to NTUC sources, many trade unions that are not affiliated to the NTUC have also expressed their support to the struggle to win a Rs. 8,000 salary increment regardless of party affiliations.
NTUC sources told that discussions have been held with trade unions from various sectors and they have agreed to support the demands on behalf of the working masses.
The NTUC has made plans to meet with trade unions representing the Railways Department and the health and postal sectors.
Although the UNP affiliated Jathika Sevaka Sangamaya (JSS) has not held official discussions with the NTUC, JSS trade unions have also expressed their support for the struggle to win a salary increment, NTUC sources said.
