Negotiations continuing at detention centre

Negotiations are continuing with Chinese detainees protesting on the roof of Villawood detention centre according to refugee advocates.
The detainees climbed onto the roof yesterday, after an earlier roof-top protest by nine Tamil men, one Iraqi man and one Kurdish man ended on Tuesday night.

Activist Sara Nathan said the Chinese detainees were seeking to have their applications for asylum processed.
Another 16 Kurdish asylum seekers who went on a dry hunger strike on September 16 were still not eating or drinking, she said.
''(The other) 11 asylum seekers who protested on the roof at Villawod were very happy with the outcome of (a meeting with representatives of United Nations refugee agency the UNHCR) and peacefully called off their protest.
''They are grateful for the support of Australians who protested outside Villawood.
"They thank the public and the media for the support and understanding. They have now received medical assistance ad slept well last night.
