Sri Lanka's main opposition United National Party (UNP) members in the Galle District have passed a resolution to organize a protest march to Colombo in two weeks to hand over a petition to party leader Ranil Wickremasinghe asking him to step down from the post.
UNP Southern Provincial Councilor Maithri Gunaratne has confirmed to the local media that the resolution was passed yesterday (19).
Another resolution had been passed calling on the party to seek the opinion of provincial councilors and local government members when taking important decisions of the party.
UNP members in the Galle District had also decided to call on the party leadership to implement the party reforms before the next local government elections to enable the UNP candidates to contest the polls more confidently.
