UNP MP calls on government to bring home 350 Sri Lankan housemaids in a refugee camp in Saudi Arabia

Ranjan Ramanayake, a legislator of Sri Lanka's main opposition United National Party (UNP) parliamentarian today called on the government to take immediate action to bring 350 Sri Lankan housemaids stranded in a transit camp in Saudi Arabia.

Ramanayake told a press conference that 350 Sri Lankan housemaids were remaining in a transit camp in Saudi Arabia unable to return to the country as the Lankan mission in Saudi is not taking the necessary steps to bring them home.
Ramanayake said the Sri Lankan Embassy in Saudi had sent the housemaids to the camp and they were undergoing difficulties without proper food and medical attention.

Most of those housemaids have fled their employers in Saudi Arabia as a result of physical and sexual abuse.
