Sri Lanka's Municipal authorities propose compulsory clean up programs to fight dengue

Sri Lankan Municipal authorities have called on the education sector to implement a compulsory clean up program in schools as a long term measure to prevent dengue from spreading.

The Colombo Municipal Council (CMC) Chief Medical Officer Dr. Pradeep Kariyawasam told the local media that education authorities should introduce such a law to control dengue.
He explained that clean up campaigns should be held before the rainy seasons and therefore suggested cleaning up programs before each monsoon period.
Hence the cleaning up for the North East Monsoon due in November should commence in September, he said.
According to Dr. Kariyawasam, dengue in the Colombo City had subsided with only 142 cases reported during this month so far.
