Sri Lanka's Epidemiology Unit warns of re-mergence of A/H1N1 virus in the country

Sri Lanka's Epidemiology Unit of the Health Ministry has warned of a re-emergence of the Influenza A (H1N1) virus in the country.
The warning has been made as the virus is currently spreading in India. Authorities have however said that precautionary steps have been taken against it.
Senior Epidemiologist of the Health Ministry, Dr. Sudath Peiris is quoted Sunday in the local media saying that the previous 400,000 vaccine stocks for the A/H1N1 virus which was requested from the World Health Organization (WHO) has been distributed to island wide hospitals.
According to Dr. Peiris, the government has requested another one million vaccines from the WHO, as a precautionary measure.
The vaccines already distributed among hospitals have been provided for free.
Dr. Peiris has said the steps were taken as a precautionary measure because there was a high likelihood of the virus spreading to Sri Lanka from neighboring India.
