The Sri Lankan government says resettlement of Internally Displaced Persons (IDPs) in the Mannar district is 99 percent complete and only 145 families remain to be resettled.
During a progress review meeting held in Mannar recently under the patronage of Economic Development Minister Basil Rajapaksa, it has been revealed that under the government's resettlement programme, only 543 persons belonging to 145 families remain to be resettled at present.
A total of 46,774 persons from 12,500 families were displaced in the Mannar district due to the war with the LTTE.
Out of 153 Grama Niladhari divisions in the Mannar district, 141 have been de-mined and only a half of the remaining 12 Grama Niladhari divisions are to be de-mined.
According to the officials 65 billion rupees has been allocated for the development of the resettled areas.
At the meeting Ministers, MPs, and other government officials reviewed the progress in education, health, housing, road, agriculture, irrigation, and sanitary facilities.
