Displaced civilians to get back the vehicles they abandoned in Sri Lanka's war zone

The Sri Lankan government says that the displaced civilians who fled the war abandoning their vehicles in the special security zone of the northern Wanni region can claim them back from today.

The abandoned vehicles now parked at the Kilinochchi District Secretariat premises and the Mullaitivu District Secretariat premises will be handed over to the owners beginning tomorrow.

District Secretary of Kilinochchi Mrs. Rupawathi Ketheeswaran said the a decision was made to release the vehicles following discussions held with the Transport Minister and the Commissioner of Motor Vehicles.
There are 100 cars and 7,500 motor cycles recovered from the special security zone set by the security forces during the military offensive.
The owners can claim their vehicles after producing relevant documents at the District Secretariats to prove their identity.
