Sri Lanka government spends Rs. 870 million for free food to hospital patients

Sri Lanka Minister of Health Maithripala Sirisena instructed the health officials to guarantee the supply of quality food to the patients admitted to government hospitals.

The Minister pointed out that the Ministry spent Rs. 878 million for patients' food last year and the estimation this year is Rs. 870 million.
The money spent for the patients' food in the first six months of the year is Rs. 329 million, the Minister said.
However, there are complaints regarding some hospitals that the contractors are not providing value for the money spent by the government.
