An unnamed Singapore businessman has expressed interest in buying the Golden Key Eye and ENT Hospital in Rajagiriya for a whopping 1.3 billion rupees, after Sri Lanka Supreme Court ordered to sell the property to pay off Golden Key depositors, local media reports said.
The Supreme Court bench comprising Justices Shirani Tilakawardene, K. Sripavan and Chandra Ekanayake on Friday ordered the Ceylinco Consolidated Group to sell the Golden Key Eye and ENT Hospital and the Hotel Sea Sands to fund the efforts to compensate the depositors of the collapsed Golden Key Credit Card Company (GKCCC).
Attorney General Mohan Peiris sought court approval for recommendations made by court-appointed three-member committee established to recover money for repayment to the depositors.
The Court also ordered to sell the personal assets of GKCCC Director Kavan Perera to credit the consolidated fund to repay the depositors.
It has been suggested to the Court that a personal property of Ceylinco Group Chairman Lalith Kotelawala at Fonseka Place in Colombo be sold to raise funds for repaying the distressed depositors.
The bankrupt Golden Key Credit Card Company, which belonged to the Ceylinco Group of Companies, commenced refunding the deposits to its customers last December.
Under the second phase of the repayment plan, those who deposited less than Rs. 2 million will be repaid 75% of their money within the next 6 weeks.
The Attorney General meanwhile informed the courts that the State plans to initiate criminal proceeding against the GKCCC directors before the end of the year.
