No comment from UN on Sri Lanka's decision to appoint Major General Silva as DPR

Martin Nesirky, Spokesperson for the United Nations Secretary-General has refused to comment on Sri Lankan government's decision to appoint Major General Shavendra Silva as the new Sri Lankan Deputy Permanent Representative to the UN in New York
.Nesirky, when questioned at Wednesday's press briefing has refused to comment on the appointment of Major General Silva who commanded the Sri Lanka Army's 58 Division during the war against LTTE in the North.
"I'm not going to enter into hypotheticals," Nesirky has said.
When questioned by a journalist whether the UN Secretary-General Ban Ki-moon can refuse to accept the appointment Nesirky has said he needed to check on the general procedure.

Sri Lanka's former Army Commander General (retd.) Sarath Fonseka accused Major General Silva, following the orders from Defence Secretary, of ordering to shoot senior LTTE leaders surrendering with white flags.
The controversial statement, although recanted later by Fonseka, prompted the UN and western countries to call for an international war crime inquiry against Sri Lanka.
