Lecturer's hand chopping case: Accussed Shamsu arrested in Tamil Nadu

In a major breakthrough in the investigation, the SIT personnel probing the lecturer's hand chopping case, have last night succeeded in nabbing one of the accused who is directly involved in the assault.

Professor TJ Joseph's right hand palm was chopped off by the assailant at Moovattupuzaha on July 4.
The accused is identified as Shamsudeen alias Shamsu, 33, son of Makkar, Variyathmuriveettil, Vengola in Arackapady near Perumbavoor in Ernakulam district.

Acting on a clue the SIT personnel took Shamsu into custody from Ukkadam near Coimbatore in Tamil Nadu last night. He was immediately rushed to Moovattupuzha for further questioning.
Shamsu was arrested by circle inspector PP Shams on the instruction of SP PN Unnirajan and Shamsudeen has revealed his direct involvement in the attack while grilling. It is learnt that the plot to attack the teacher was finalised in the house of Nazar in Aluva.
Accused Shamsudeen had reportedly revealed the names of six of his accomplices who took part in the operation. Shamsu will be produced before Moovattupuzha judicial first class magistrate today, said SP Unnirajan.
