Group protests in Kelaniya calling for the re-instatement of sacked Sri Lankan deputy minister

A group of people carried out a protest today in Kelaniya demanding the re-instatement of sacked deputy minister Mervyn Silva in his deputy ministerial post and as SLFP organizer for the Kelaniya electorate.

The protest was held opposite the Kelaniya Pradeshiya Sabha around noon.
Media reports stated that around 50 protestors had participated in the protest holding placards demanding Silva's re-instatement.

Silva was removed from his deputy ministerial portfolio and was suspended from the SLFP membership along with the post of SLFP Kelaniya electorate organizer by President Mahinda Rajapaksa on Tuesday (10).
The President's decision was made amidst island wide agitation campaigns calling for action to be taken against Silva, who tied a Samurdhi officer to a tree last week as punishment for failing to attend a dengue prevention programme
