Congress responsible for Parliament impasse: Raja

Blaming Congress for the stalemate in Parliament over price rise, CPI leader D. Raja on Sunday charged that the UPA government rejected the Opposition demand for an adjournment motion on the issue as it had doubts of even its own allies supporting it.

“They hesitate for a debate because they do not have faith in their allies. The Congress is fully responsible for the stalemate in Parliament,” he told reporters here.
Mr. Raja said the Opposition had sought a debate and adjournment motion as per Rule 184 in Lok Sabha and Rule 168 of the Parliament Act in Rajya Sabha as they wanted Parliament to function and debate a major issue since inflation was going “out of control“.
“The functioning of Parliament tomorrow also depends on the Government,” he said.
On alleged financial irregularities in preparations for the Commonwealth Games, he said the Centre should order a proper inquiry into the charges. India’s respect and honour are linked to how well the CWG are held, he said.

“I hope the Government will not keep quiet and order a full probe, at least to protect the respect of the nation,” he said.

Earlier, CPI leader A. B. Bardhan declared open the party office of Sivaganga district here.

Tamil Nadu minister K. R. Periyakaruppan and Congress MP Sudharsan Natchiappan were also present at the function.
