Sri Lanka's Private Bus Owners Association (PBOA) this evening decided to postpone a strike planned to commence at midnight today.
PBOA President Gemunu Wijeratne said the Association decided to postpone the strike after they held discussions with Western Province Transport Minister Upali Kodikara.
Wijeratne said the Minister had agreed at the meeting to reduce charges of route permits and accordingly a route permit would be Rs. 500 while other permits will also be reduced.
The PBOA initially decided to launch a strike at midnight today against the decision of the Western Provincial Council to increase the charges of route permits and other charges.
Wijeratne also threatened to increase bus fares if the permit charges were increased.
