Sri Lanka President initiates several development projects in South

Sri Lanka President Mahinda Rajapaksa who is now on a visit in his native Southern Province has initiated a number of development work in Matara district today.



The President this afternoon declared open the newly constructed three storied building in the Henry Ariyaratna School in Hakmana and vested the newly built Hakmana Pradeshiya Sabha building complex on public.
He also laid foundation stone for the proposed town hall in Hakmana town in the Matara district.
President Rajapaksa is scheduled to address ruling Sri Lanka Freedom Party (SLFP) members of Hakmana electorate at a meeting today in Hakmana Town Hall grounds.
The President declared open the fully equipped Sirisena Amarasekera Conference Hall at the Middeniya Maha Vidyalaya for the students of the area.
Addressing the crowd gathered at the occasion President Rajapaksa pointed out the importance of learning English and invited the young generation to consider English as a weapon to win the future world.
He said the government is focused on improving the English knowledge of the children in the rural areas. Also, they should be armed with the knowledge of Information Technology and everyone is duty bound to assist in this process, the President said.
The President also participated in the opening ceremony of Sri Lanka Singapore Friendship School in Weeraketiya yesterday.
Addressing the public following the opening, President Rajapaksa said his government is focused on enhancing the educational facilities to secure the future of country's children and he has directed the relevant officials to take immediate actions to ease the shortage of teachers in schools.
